New Tests at KSVDL

Bovine Pinkeye (IBK) PCR Panel (MDL:3330)

This test is specific for:

Bacterial pathogens: Viral pathogen:
Moraxella bovoculi Bovine herpes virus type 1 (IBR)
Moraxella bovis
Mycoplasma bovoculi
Mycoplasma bovis


Sample: eye swabs submitted in a sterile container with a few drops (0.5 ml) of saline or PBS.

Test schedule: Monday through Friday

Expected turnaround time: 1-2 days.

The results are reported out as Positive, Negative, Suspect, with Ct values.

Blue-green Algae (TOX-1003)

Microscopic examination of water

Sample: 500 ml water that includes pond scum

Test schedule: Monday through Friday

Expected turnaround time: 1 day

Microcystin (TOX-1072)

Test is specific for a toxin produced by some blue-green algae

Sample:

  1. 500 ml water that includes pond scum
  2. One pound of rumen contents

Test schedule: Monday through Friday

Expected turnaround time: 1 day

Molecular Serotyping of Salmonella Isolates (MDL-1027)

Species: All

Sample:

  1. culture plates, slants, purified DNA
  2. loop of culture inoculated into 2.0 ml of enrichment media
  3. minimum of 15 ul DNA at concentration of 10 ng/ul or higher

Test schedule: Monday through Friday

Expected turnaround time: 3-4 days.

Test schedule: Monday through Friday

Expected turnaround time: 2-3 days for Enterotoxigenic E. coli

1-2 days for all other pathogens
